Expecting Great Things From Linux Mint 8 KDE

If the buzz around Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 is any indication, the pending release of Mint 8 Helena KDE should be quite an amazing release. Here's a recent stream of Twitter and Identi.ca streams regarding Kubuntu 9.10. All of these were taken today, the 23rd of November.

@sergwy I did the same thing to an old generic laptop using Kubuntu...gave the machine a whole new lease on life. Owner was VERY happy!

Is it just me, or has it got to the point that !kde effects are smoother/faster then Compiz effects? Maybe mis-configured something, but...

I have been running Kubuntu 9.10 on an old HP laptop for some time and can say it's a great computing experience. If you haven't tried it, what's stopping you?

If you have tried it, your input on what should be present on Mint 8 KDE is most welcome. You can help make the Mintified KDE4 release the best it can possibly be by joining the conversation at the Linux Mint KDE Forums.

If you have tried Kubuntu 9.10, either as a liveCD or an actual install, what are your thoughts? What would stop you from running Kubuntu or Linux Mint 8 KDE? Or, maybe better stated: What would it take to get you to try it? You just might be pleasantly surprised.
